Texas Real Estate License Renewal Requirements
The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires licensed real estate agents and brokers to renew their license every two years.
If you are renewing your salesperson license for the first time, TREC requires you to fulfill the Salesperson's Apprenticeship Education (SAE) requirement by completing a total of 270 qualifying real estate course hours. If you obtained your license by submitting 180 hours of qualifying courses, you will need an additional 90 hours of elective SAE courses plus 4 hours each of Legal Update I and Legal Update II courses. Sales agents who have been made a supervisor by their broker must also take the 6-hour Broker Responsibility course to renew. Y ou can enroll in SAE courses by navigating to our Texas SAE Packages.
If you have already renewed your salesperson license once and this is your subsequent renewal or if you are a broker, TREC requires you to complete 18 hours of Continuing Education (CE) courses. You will need a total of 18 hours of Continuing Education coursework in order to renew your license. You must complete the following courses:
- TREC Legal Update I
- TREC Legal Update II
- Broker Responsibility (supervising licensees only)
- 3 mandatory hours for Contracts (for license renewals on or after February 1, 2021)
- Remaining hours of TREC-approved Electives
Our course packages include all the required courses to renew your license.
You are able to start your courses anytime, however you may only submit certificates within 90 days of expiration. A renewal notice is sent 90 days before your expiration date.
Submitting your continuing education documents at least 10 days before your renewal application ensures a smooth renewal process and avoids the $200 Deferral Fee.
If you are late to renew your license, TREC provides a six month grace period along with a late renewal fee. Renewing after the six month grace period will require reinstatement proceedings. Waiting more than two years after your license expiration will require you to reapply for a new license.

After completing each course, you will receive a certificate of completion. All Continuing Education course completions will be reported by 360training.com within 24-48 business hours.
